Biva Rani Dey

Biva Rani Dey’s life reflects resilience, determination, and the enduring power of community support. Born in Bhairab, now in Bangladesh, she experienced the upheaval of Partition in 1947. In 1948, she migrated to Kanchrapara in West Bengal, starting a new life with little more than the memories of her homeland and the hope for a brighter future.

In 1950, Biva Rani married Haripada Dey, and together they raised four children—two sons and two daughters. Despite facing financial hardships, the couple worked tirelessly to provide for their family, instilling in their children the values of hard work and perseverance. Tragically, in 1973, Haripada passed away unexpectedly, leaving Biva Rani to care for their young children alone.

As a widow in her early 50s, Biva Rani faced significant challenges. To support her family, she took on multiple jobs. She delivered milk, escorted children to school, worked at Philips, and later became a hospital attendant. Her creative skills also helped sustain her family, as she took up Batik work, designing intricate patterns that she sold to earn extra income.

In 1974, the Kumar Pramathanath Roy Public Charitable Trust recognized her struggle and began offering essential support. The Trust provided a monthly allowance, which helped ease the financial burden, and also assisted in funding her children’s education. This ongoing support allowed Biva Rani to focus on raising her children and giving them the opportunities she had worked so hard to create.

Throughout the years, the Trust’s assistance proved invaluable. Biva Rani’s life was further supported by the kindness of a lawyer who helped her reclaim her home, offering his services free of charge. This intervention, coupled with the Trust’s unwavering support, gave her the stability she needed to rebuild her life.
Now, at 102 years old, Biva Rani lives surrounded by her children and grandchildren, who continue to benefit from the education and opportunities made possible by her hard work and the Trust’s help. Her life story is one of endurance and quiet strength, demonstrating how resilience and the support of others can transform lives.

Biva Rani remains deeply grateful for the consistent help she has received from the Kumar Pramatha Nath Roy Public Charitable Trust, which has played a crucial role in her journey since 1974. Her story continues to inspire those who believe in the power of community and compassion.

Rohit Roy: A Journey of Resilience and Triumph

Rohit Roy, a young man from Nabadwip, Nadia, West Bengal, is a true example of strength and determination. Born with physical challenges, he has defied the odds with a passion for education. His journey reflects resilience, dedication, and the transformative power of community support.

From an early age, it was clear that Rohit was not one to be defined by his challenges. Despite being orthopedically challenged, he was determined to pursue an education and carve a path toward success. His academic journey began at Nabadwip Bakultala Uchcha Vidyalaya, where he completed both his Madhyamik and Higher Secondary (H.S.) education. Rohit’s achievements were extraordinary, earning an impressive 83% in his H.S. exams, with a particularly remarkable score of 90% in Geography—an early indicator of his intellectual capabilities.

Driven by his passion for Geography, Rohit pursued a Bachelor of Science in the subject from Krishnanagar Government College, completing his degree in 2021 with 72%. He didn’t stop there; his ambition led him to further his studies at Presidency University, where he pursued a Master’s degree in Geography. Rohit’s relentless pursuit of excellence paid off when he cleared the prestigious UGC NET examination, bringing him closer to his dream of further academic achievements, including a potential Ph.D. at Visva-Bharati University.

Rohit attributes his academic success not solely to his personal efforts but also the support he received from his family, especially his mother. Rohit’s mother, undeterred by the challenges of daily life, physically carried him to school and later, to college. She travelled with him every day, sometimes walking for long distances or taking public transport to ensure that her son never missed an opportunity for education. For years, she commuted with him from Nadia to Kolkata, a testament to her selfless love and dedication.

Rohit Roy’s story is a powerful example of how a community can uplift individuals and help them overcome even the most daunting challenges. Through the unwavering support of his family, local organizations, and the Kumar Pramathanath Roy Public Charitable Trust, Rohit has been able to defy expectations and achieve his dreams. His journey highlights the profound impact that community support can have in empowering individuals to rise above adversity and reach their full potential.

As he looks ahead to his Ph.D. and beyond, Rohit remains an inspiration to all, demonstrating that no matter the limitations one may face, with the right opportunities and support, the sky is the limit.
