On December 1, 2024, the Kumar Pramathanath Private Charitable Trust, in collaboration with The Straight Talk, launched a remarkable initiative aimed at improving the well-being and future prospects of young students in Bagnan. The program, hosted at Bagnan Vivekananda Shikshakendra, focused on two critical pillars for a better life: menstrual hygiene and mental health.
Bagnan Vivekananda Shikshakendra is a tutorial centre run by a dedicated couple, committed to providing academic and all-round support to students in the community. Beyond tutoring in regular school subjects, the centre offers mentoring in personal development, life skills, and overall character building. Over the years, the centre has become a beacon of hope for many students from underprivileged backgrounds, with numerous success stories of students pursuing higher education in fields like engineering, nursing, and various honours college degrees. These achievements highlight the centre’s
unwavering dedication to transforming the lives of young people, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future.
The event on December 1st underscored the Shikshakendra’s commitment to holistic development, not only fostering academic excellence but also addressing the critical health issues that affect the students. The program focused on raising awareness about menstrual hygiene and mental health, emphasizing the importance of well-being among youth—particularly young women, who often face unique challenges related to both.
One of the highlights of the event was a workshop on menstrual hygiene, which was conducted to educate and equip the students with the knowledge they need to manage their menstrual health with confidence and dignity. In addition to the workshop, the Trust provided essential resources to support the students’ health and well-being. This included distributing sanitary napkins, health-friendly innerwear, soaps, and detergent powders—all vital items that help eliminate barriers to school attendance and daily participation in life. The Trust also provided 500 tablets for period pain relief and other essential medicines to ensure that students would not have to miss school due to physical discomfort.
In keeping with its commitment to the students’ overall health, the Trust also ensured that nutritious breakfasts were provided for 160 students for an entire month, helping to improve their focus and performance in school by addressing nutritional gaps.
Recognizing the broader needs of the community, the Trust extended its support to local underprivileged families as well. These families received mosquito nets to protect against preventable diseases, as well as thoughtful gifts that brightened their lives. To promote sanitation and hygiene in the community, the Trust donated 25 kilograms of bleaching powder for cleaning and disinfecting the school and surrounding areas.
Additionally, in the spirit of community care, the Trust arranged lunch for 250 attendees, ensuring that everyone involved in the event was well-fed and cared for.
